Feering, Colchester Meeting Report

Feering Community Centre

20th October 2024

Meeting report by Hilary Croydon

We met, as usual, at Feering Community Centre on a Sunday afternoon. As we arrived, Superman and a Disney Princess also arrived to surprise the guests at a four year old’s birthday party in the larger hall! Sadly, they didn’t join us!

Instead, we were very pleased to welcome three new people and we chatted over tea and cakes and then shared information about useful items of equipment. There was much enthusiasm for flexi feet which fit to the ends of sticks or crutches helping with stability and acting as shock absorbers. We also watched a demonstration of a ReTurn transfer aid; the user can pull themself up to standing and a family member can turn the aid to position it in front of a bed, toilet or another seat to make transfers easier and safer. The Sara Stedy is another option. There was also a raised toilet seat that can be dismantled and packed away for travelling which had proved useful where hotel or other facilities don’t quite meet the needs. Finally, there was a Stander Security Pole and Grab Bar which is adjustable and fixed by pressure between floor and ceiling and so can be positioned anywhere in a room such as by a chair, bed or bath without the need for fixing to the wall.

We look forward to meeting up again in the Spring.
